part i.
Character name: Data
Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation
Species: Soong-type android
Character powers:
  • Super-human strength, speed (both physical and mental), dexterity, and durability
  • Inability to feel physical pain (or pleasure)
  • Does not require rest of any kind
  • Not affected by poison, biological illness, environmental changes, mind-altering substances, drowning, or the vacuum of space
  • Can perfectly replicate any voice he has ever heard
  • Has hearing more sensitive than a dog’s, and can identify several hundred different distinct sound patterns simultaneously (such as different voices in a crowded room or different songs playing over one another); sense of touch is also canonically shown to be heightened (ie: ability to feel very small details in texture, identify materials, and find imperfections in said materials via touch); sight is likely heightened as well
  • Can perform self-diagnostics

part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
Data is immune to all types of magical/biology-based mind-control. He is, however, vulnerable to technology-based manipulations of the mind, such as being reprogrammed with alternate personalities/consciousnesses or having his homing signal activated. I'm unsure whether technology even exists in Baedal that would allow anyone to pull something like that off, or whether there are any PCs who would have the knowledge required to do so, but if you think your character would be able to do something like this and you want to work it into a plot, I'll ask that you definitely speak to me first.

2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.
Data is also immune to all types of telepathy and empathy. He doesn't have psychic barriers, and he doesn't have any kind of an aura—he just doesn't register at all to telepaths and empaths. It should be noted that if Data ever installs his emotion chip, empaths will be able to pick up on his emotional state, but telepaths will still be unable to get a read from him.

3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up?
See #2.

4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
See #2.

5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
See #2.

part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
Data is very obviously a xenian. His skin is an extremely pale gold color with a metallic sheen, and his eyes are a matching bright gold. Outwardly, he is otherwise humanoid, but concealed panels on his scalp, torso, and even fingernails can be lifted to expose his underlying circuitry.

2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
He is immune to all of these things except telekinesis and some chemical agents (though he is immune to many chemicals that would harm carbon-based lifeforms).

3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.
Ha, ha. He's an android. For more details, see his application.

4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
The problem with Data being injured in Baedal is that it would be hard for him to find someone capable of repairing him. Because of this, I'll probably keep him out of harm's way unless I'm made aware of another PC who is able to do maintenance for him. Fortunately, he's very hardy and is difficult to damage. Vampires won't find anything worth their time here.

5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
They can take on his form, sure. As far as ability mimicry goes, since Data is synthetic and all his abilities are based on that, I'm not sure if that would work? We can always discuss it, though, and of course it's completely down to your own character's abilities. You'd have to think of it this way: 1) could your character turn into something synthetic, like a computer? and 2) if your character turned into a computer, could they actually perform all the functions of a computer or would they just appear to be a computer?

part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
See #2 of Part II.

2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses?
It depends on whether the spell or curse is able to affect non-living/synthetic things or whether it relies on the subject being made of flesh/having a "soul." As stated in Part II, he is immune to mind-control and mind-reading spells.

3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?
Data's one temptation is being able to experience "humanity" (by which he means emotion and sensation) firsthand. Even when offered this directly, though, he is virtually impossible to tempt or corrupt.

4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?
Data is incredibly innocent. The closest thing I can think of might be envy, since he's always trying to be more human, but that's stretching the definition of the sin a bit, I think. Offering him the chance to feel the sensations of pleasure and pain—that's the closest anyone will get to tempting him.

5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot?
Surely. Data is capable of dreaming.

part v.
1. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances?
Go forth and jack to your hearts' content, frands.

2. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced?
It's Star Trek. HAPPENS ALL THE DAMN TIME.

3. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)?
All good here.

4. Are there any additions you would like us to make to this survey?
Still seems adequate to me.
